A sustainable packaging solution derived from sugar cane may seem surprising, but why shouldn’t a nature-friendly resin come from nature?
Traditional resin for PE packaging is oil and gas based, which continues to add burden to a frail environment. However, sugar cane can be distilled and fermented to produce ethylene with a very favorable eco profile—producing a bio resin with a much smaller and sustainable footprint.
PCR tubes using sugar cane produced resin was a natural fit—including caps that allow the tubes to be completely recycled. These innovative tubes were constructed using a three-layer extrusion process, and accept all standard forms of decoration, including color offset printing, hot stamping, silkscreen processing and pressure sensitive labeling.
